Homicide, rape and other types of abuse are acts of violence that we hear about everyday, see in the media, and know that these crimes probably will be not solved. How can we live in a society where crime has increased due to the situation that we are having in today's Europe caused of migrant crisis. Of course is very important to note that many are refugees are from war in Syria, but we have happenings like in Germany during New years where the women in Cologne has been attacked by men with Arab or North African appearance according to BBC and latest terrorist attacks in Belgium. Do you feel safe where you live? In addition to violence, we do not know what our future will look like from a medical angle.
DNA is complicated and the most important part of an organism, because DNA is a molecule which contains information about the development, functioning and reproduction of all living organisms. Small changes in DNA can cause serious consequences. Are you sure that your DNA is unprompted and correct? That is to say, is your DNA not affected by environment, radiation and chemicals. Your answers probably sound negative, because according to an internet study 58 percent of people feel unsafe or want to have the national DNA database. We must stop these horrible happenings in our society and establish a national DNA database on all citizens.
Firstly, the national DNA database on all citizens creates medical possibilities. For example, medical scientists would increase their understanding of DNA and its function. It would also allow scientists to research and maybe identify future risks, such as diseases or in the worst case mutations and already now has been successful to cure some of diseases by gene therapy for example immune deficiencies, hereditary blindness, hemophilia and cancer according to Genetic Science Learning Center. If scientists had such possibilities then they could prevent the future risks which we do not know about yet. Furthermore, they people would live more safely and calmly, knowing that they are genetically healthy.
Secondly, the DNA database which covers all the population in any country would save the great amount of time spent investigating crimes by the police and would help to solve crimes faster. The system of fingerprints, which we have today, is not effective finding a person guilty of the crime. Many criminals have their own tricks how not to leave evidence. It is quite easy, since they just need to have gloves. This is why we must improve the possibilities of the police to find criminals faster and not let them continue to commit crimes. If there was the DNA database it would suffice to find a hair to prove the crime.
However, many people are against the national DNA database on all citizens because it can infringe upon our privacy. The government will be allowed to use the information which DNA keeps inside and there is a risk that this information can get out and be used in the wrong way. Another risk with a national DNA database is that information, which is stored in computers, can be corrupted over time. As a result of that there will be data loss. Then you may get medical advice based on incorrect information.
The benefits of a national DNA database are definite advantages if we want to have a safe society, if we want to feel safe when we walk at night and if we want to be healthy. A national database on all citizens is the solution. A DNA database can do more important things and not only be used as a crime prevention method. Criminals can be easily connected to a crime scene by a DNA test. DNA can also be used as evidence in many cases especially in police investigations. Crimes which have happened a long time ago could be also solved because of DNA from the crime scene. A DNA database has a big potential and will have wider usage in different spheres of life in the future. DNA database must be established!
In conclusion, the national DNA database improves today's possibilities for a safer and healthier society. A DNA databases on all citizens would create possibilities to prevent diseases and mutations, possibilities to prevent crime too and solve it faster. The future is in your hands and we must make the right decisions while creating it. Don't forget possibilities!
