Stem cells are non-specialized cells in multicellular organisms. Stem cells are known for cell dividing a lot (also known as mitosis. There are adult and embryonic stem cells. Adult stem cells are in adult or already developed organisms. Therefore they tend to repair the tissues in comparison of the embryonic stem cells that builds an organism . Embryonic stem cells have the potential to evolve into any kind of cells unlike the adult ones.
I am against embryonic stem cells because of the risks of using them. First of all there’s too little research to know how the stem cells will evolve, thus the chance of failure is high. In addition the implant might result in rejection because the stem cells are not from the same body hence leading to more unknown results. Furthermore we don’t know what the effects are.
Secondly i see embryonic stem cells as potential life. Is it ethically correct to just research on potential life and then simply throw it away. Furthermore you risk on killing life by using the stem cells and afterwards damage the human body. Researchers have also experimented on animals which i think is the same as abusing them. In conclusion i find researching with stem cells and also using them in therapy is the same as abortion, damaging or even killing life.
Some people might think of stem cells are acceptable as a last resort if the patient is really sick and there’s no other option to use. However that takes many risks and may damage the patient even more and even though the therapy is successful the side effects remain unknown, especially in long term. As mentioned this is due to the lack of research and therefore the accuracy of success is low.
Finally i think that stem cells are bad for treatment due to the results after a failure. The embryonic stem cells might evolve into something unwanted such as cancer cells. Stem cells rapidly divide so in addition the cancer cells might divide so quick that the body is left with cancer tumors. A child in Israel was injected with embryonic stem cells. Afterwards cancer cells rapidly multiplied uncontrollably.
To summarize I am against injection of embryonic stem cells. A failure can lead to intense sickness like cancer and we have not researched enough to increase the accuracy to succeed with the treatment and to reveal the unknown side effects. The research itself has downsides too because stem cells are potential life and sometimes are used to experiment on animals. Do we have the right to kill animals because of our own needs. Even if we don’t value the animal, the animal has a value for themselves and maybe even other organisms.
