Medical Use of Embryonic Stem Cells
The purpose of embryonic stem cell therapy is to be able to form new organs. This could help sick or injured people by replacing the damaged tissue in the organs with the help of embryonic stem cells. However, embryonic stem cells are derived from embryos. By extracting these stem cells the embryo gets destroyed in the process. I believe that it is wrong, it is not ethical or humanitarian to do so.
Firstly, we know that a fetus is created when the fertilization begins. However, in my opinion it is wrong to take a life from a fetus because if you could imagine that the fetus is yours, then would you want someone to take your fetus away from you? Or in other words do we have the right to do that?
You have created a new human being that will be a part of the new generation of the world and it is your responsibility to take care of the new generation that give the new generation a chance to make the most of they their own lives in the future. For example if your parent would do the same thing you are doing now, how would you feel if you saw it from the perspective of the fetus? Of course you will presumably think it is a disaster and horrible , because you have all the right to be a human and live life like other humans.
Secondly, Will it really work? I know that we all agree that we need to do something about it and make the future better in many ways. I think that it is not really important at the moment we have much bigger world problems to resolve for example global warming, and it is a bigger problem than “medical use of embryonic stem cells”. We are not sure that it will work and it is not that big of a chance that it will work. Furthermore, it depends on among others economic reasons as well as knowledge. If it does not work as we have imagined, would it not be a waste of lives? The first obstacle to overcome is the availability of embryonic stem cells. Each embryo only has 30-40 stem cells, and they must be removed when the embryo is four to five days old!
However , there are many people who will not have the same opinion as me and they might say “We can develop new medicines that can provide help for many people with very well functioning lives in the future”. Nevertheless, there are risks involved when dealing with stem cells. Stem cells have the ability to grow uncontrollably. In the worst case they can grow and become tumours. This is a technique that needs to be perfected before used on human lives in a safe way.
Thirdly, and finally, my question is who can afford these medicines? These will probably not be free of charge. The scientists have spent lots of resources to produce the medicine. Only rich people can acquire the medicine and if you think closely on their lifestyles, most of the rich people are very healthy in that way that they often buy expensive food to eat and they often eat healthy meals.
Medical use of embryonic stem cells can be used for the wrong purposes because of the money offered. Some people choose to have an abortion just for the money. However, in the laws of ethics killing someone is wrong and it is very disrespectful.
Another concern is that the so-called therapeutic cloning (the creation of embryonic stem cells for medical treatment by somatic nuclear transfer) will lead to new people created in this way (reproductive cloning). We are not really sure that the result will become as intended.
Remember that you have created a new human being or a new generation to the world and it is your responsibility to take care of the new generation and give the new generation a chance to make the most of their lives in the future.
We have a bigger problem than this and it is global warming
which is can affects every single living creature in the world and it can absolutely leads to negative impacts!
Why can we not focus at the global warming instead the purpose of this is to be able to form new organs using stem cells?
